The School of Information and Communication Studies, University of Ghana, in collaboration with the African Peace building (APN) Program of the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), is organizing a Two-day Regional Training Workshop on “Improving Media Coverage of Conflict and Peace building in West Africa.”
The objective of this media practitioner training workshop is to build the capacity of African journalists to cover conflict and peace building in order to mitigate the risk of the media contributing to conflict. The workshop also seeks to promote a peace journalism approach in the coverage of conflict and peace building by West African journalists.
The Workshop will take place at the University of Ghana, Accra, March 30-31, 2016.
Journalists working in print, broadcast and online media from Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and the Gambia are welcome to apply. Journalists from French-speaking West African countries who are competent in English can also apply.
Applicants should be full-time or freelance journalists with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in journalism practice.
All expenses related to the Workshop, including travel, accommodation and food will be borne by organizers.
The deadline for applications is February 12, 2016.
Requirements:
- All applications are to be submitted electronically and must include:A brief cover letter stating interest in attending the workshop;
- A current resume showing professional work history;A sample of a story relating to conflict/peace building published within the last six months;
- A brief proposal in English (not more than a page) outlining a short feature or documentary story you wish to cover in your country relating to peace building;A letter of recommendation from your organisation on letter head. Freelance journalists not employed directly by a media organisation can provide a letter of support from any media organisation which has published their work.
