Penplusbytes to Share Experience at 8th ICT4D Conference in Nairobi, Kenya

On Monday May 16th, the Executive Director of Penplusbytes, Kwami Ahiabenu II will be speaking on promoting effective governance using ICTs at the eighth annual ICT4D conference  taking place in Nairobi, Kenya from the 16th to 19th of May 2016 on the theme, “From Innovation to Impact; using Technology to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”.

He will be sharing Penplusbytes’ project experience on its ground breaking project with Parliament “Connecting Citizens to Parliament”, and making a case for the use of technology to improve citizen participation in governance.

Mr. Ahiabenu who will be speaking to thought leaders and experienced professionals from around the world gathered to share and explore ways of using ICT to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has stated that he hopes that the cross fertilization of ideas will result in even more innovations across African countries.

He further notes that, “technology can be an important driver for good governance when situated within a framework of citizen-centric participatory approach backed by responsive duty bearers who are able to effectively engage while converting feedback into action”.

The ICT4D conference  is a gathering of executives, senior staff, experts and global ambassadors from organizations committed to achieving the SDGs and interested in how ICT can enable the changes needed to do so. Each day of the conference will have plenaries and breakout sessions.

According to organisers, some key focuses will include; ICT solutions that are having significant impact in development, examining the alignment of Government ICT strategies with the SDGs,   establishing the structure of cross-sector partnerships and business models for ICT solution delivery that are results oriented.

Other breakout presentations will examine the types of changes within development sectors that are critical to achieving the SDGs as well as the connection between government ICT strategies and those of private sector businesses and civil society organizations operating in the same geographies. The event will also include trainings for attendees who want to obtain hands-on experience with ICT solutions  or to broaden their skills in developing strategies and plans for executing solutions.
